The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) indicate that more than 78% of adults, age 50 and older, are at risk for health problems related to lack of regular and sustained physical activity.  Individuals can greatly reduce their risk of dying from heart disease and decrease the risk for colon cancer, diabetes and high blood pressure by engaging in regular physical activity.

 

Health & Fitness


SilverSneakers Fitness Program
SilverSneaker classes offer multilevel equipment-based strength and conditioning exercises designed for Medicare eligible individuals. The exercises are designed to improve your strength, flexibility and ability to perform functional activities. Classes are offered two times per week. It’s never too late to start exercising! Fee: FREE for Members Only

 

Active for Life®

Are you over 50 or know someone who is? Active for Life® is a free program to qualified individuals. The program features physical activity to improve your health. You will experience one-on-one sessions with a health advisor, individualized fitness plans, monthly handouts and fitness resource guides. Hydro–Fitness
An excellent cardiovascular workout with minimal strain on joints. Increased muscle tone, flexibility and range of motion are the primary benefits of all water exercise programs. AM and PM classes available.

 

Senior Yoga

Getting fit isn’t easy. Challenges range from making the time, to having the energy to finding the right place. That’s where the YMCA’s new Commit to be Fit program can help—and best of all, it’s FREE to all members! For a fitness program to meet your individual needs, you need individualized coaching. During the 12-week program, your Fit Coach will meet with you to determine your lifestyle, schedule and fitness goals. Getting started is easy. To sign up for the Commit to be Fit program, simply stop by the membership desk and schedule your first appointment with your Fit Coach. You’ll be on your way to a healthier you!

 

GoldCommit
For seniors who may or may not be familiar with fitness equipment and want motivational coaching. Includes four meetings with a Fit Coach over a 12-week period. Fee: FREE for Members Only

ingle Room Occupancy—The Irving Park YMCA provides fully furnished rooms with ceiling fans and daily maid service. Rates begin at $378 per month and include a YMCA membership.
